Low-EMF Fitness Trackers: What Bluetooth-Off Actually Means
A Bluetooth-off option gives you control over a tracker’s wireless connection. It is different from a low-power radio, and neither should be confused with an “EMF-free” device.

Three settings that matter more than a label
If you are shopping for a low-EMF fitness tracker, look past the headline and check its actual wireless controls. Can you disable Bluetooth on the tracker? Can you choose when to sync? Can you change how often it transmits?

Bluetooth off and phone Bluetooth off are different
Turning Bluetooth off on your phone does not necessarily turn off the radio inside a nearby tracker. A device may continue advertising that it is available to connect. If your intention is to stop the tracker’s Bluetooth communication, use its supported device-level control.

Transmit power and duty cycle answer different questions
Transmit power describes the radio’s output while it is sending a signal. Duty cycle describes how much of the time it spends doing that. A radio can transmit briefly at one power setting, or more frequently at another.
Ray uses low transmit power and a low duty cycle as part of its energy-efficient design. You can also adjust the transmission interval. The resulting wireless activity depends on how you configure and use the device.
Battery life does not measure RF exposure
A tracker powers more than a radio. Its sensors, processing and display—if it has one—all use energy. Lower total power consumption does not establish an equally large reduction in RF emissions.
That is why we describe Ray’s supported controls and radio design rather than attach an unmeasured percentage to its emissions. Screenless also does not mean wireless-free: Ray uses Bluetooth Low Energy for syncing.
Build the routine around when you read your data
If you usually review sleep in the morning, an on-demand sync may fit your habits. If you want fresh readings in the app throughout the day, a connected configuration may be more convenient. Choose the behavior that matches your preferences, and confirm storage limits before leaving any tracker disconnected for a long period.
