What fitness tracker can I wear with a mechanical watch?
A narrow leather bracelet, a woven band or a sports strap can give you heart rate and sleep data while you keep wearing your own watch.
Keep the watch on its usual wrist and wear a screenless band on the other. You can take the watch off at bedtime and still see your heart rate and sleep the next morning. In the photo, the gold Ray is on the wrist opposite the watch. Its brown leather band picks up the color of the watch strap.

Which band fits beside a traditional watch?
| Tracker | What you wear | Power and US price |
|---|---|---|
| Chargerless Ray | An 11 mm polished steel case on an interchangeable 8 mm band. Choose leather if you want the second wrist to look like a narrow bracelet. | From $219, with no subscription. Outdoor light powers it. See the current US preorder ship window. |
| Google Fitbit Air | A 17 mm wide, 8.3 mm thick sensor with a woven band. A stainless steel mesh band is also available. | From $99.99 with the standard band. Google rates it for up to seven days per charge. |
| Amazfit Helio Strap | A 22 mm sports strap. It can also broadcast heart rate to compatible workout equipment. | $99.99 with no required subscription. Amazfit rates it for up to ten days per charge in typical use. |
Ray’s case is 6 mm narrower than the Fitbit Air sensor. Weight tells a different story. Ray is 7 g before adding a band. Google lists Fitbit Air at 5.2 g without its band and 12 g with the standard band. If the strip of hardware showing below a cuff is what bothers you, compare widths. If you prefer the woven look and already have a charging routine, the standard Fitbit costs less.
Can I wear both on the same wrist?
Try the tracker a little higher on your forearm, fasten your cuff and bend your wrist. If the cases knock together or one pushes the sensor off your skin, move the tracker to your other arm. A Wareable reviewer found room to wear Fitbit Air alongside a watch. The watch case and your wrist size determine how much room you have.
Check the clasp as well. If your strap closes with a magnet, follow your watchmaker’s advice about separation. A leather strap with a conventional buckle avoids putting a magnetic clasp beside the movement. Seiko explains how magnets affect a watch.
What happens when I take the watch off for bed?
Leave the tracker on and take off the watch as usual. All three trackers record heart rate and sleep for review on a phone. The example below shows one night in the Ray app. If a clasp presses into your wrist when your hand is under your pillow, try a different band or wrist. Aim for enough contact that the sensor stays flat when you turn your hand over.

If forgetting to charge is why you stopped wearing a tracker, Ray has no charging port. About 1–2 minutes of direct outdoor sunlight can replace a day’s energy under Chargerless test settings. A cuff covering the panel blocks that light. Give it some uncovered time outdoors and check the battery trend in the app. See the sun, shade and window tests.
